Program Coordinator The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is pleased to announce the search for a Program Coordinator to support the Science and Federal Coordination Programs with a focus on the activities of the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Observations (IWGOO) Program Office. This is a regular, full-time, exempt. The position will report to the Coordinator of Federal Interagency Programs. The IWGOO advises and assists with federal ocean observing efforts, including the Integrated Ocean Observing System, which is the U.S. contribution to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). The IWGOO Program Coordinator manages Consortium for Ocean Leadership-coordinated activities in support of the IWGOO, its successor programs including those associated with the Administration’s Ocean Action Plan, and the Ocean Leadership mission. This individual builds relationships with individuals in government, industry, and academia, supports the development of IWGOO position papers and briefing materials, and works to expand Ocean Leadership’s role in the ocean community. As the individual responsible for the efficient operations of the IWGOO Program Office, the Program Coordinator: 1. Coordinates and facilitates meetings and workshops of national and international steering committees, governing councils, and working groups associated with the IWGOO. 2. Provides technical assistance and strategic insight into the development of position papers and briefing materials on ocean observations in support of the IWGOO. 3. Ensures successful programmatic support functions such as guiding the development of agendas, identifying topical presenters, arranging telephone, VTC, web cam, and face-to-face conferencing, and maintaining project databases and websites. 4. Provides support for the programmatic and/or administrative requirements of the corporation, including maintaining the program websites and exhibit booths, preparing and distributing promotional and informational brochures, and other tasks as assigned. To qualify, you must possess a Master’s degree, preferably in scientific, technical, or policy related discipline, and at least two years’ experience in marine/environmental policy or program coordination of a scientific program (or equivalent science training and management experience). Familiarity with ocean science and related federal government agencies is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree plus several years of highly relevant specialized experience may substitute for the Master’s degree requirement. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail are required. The successful applicant will have demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with the ability to exercise good, independent judgment on courses of action and to exhibit a proactive approach to assigned projects. Initiative, creativity and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team are a must. Must be flexible and able to work with good spirits and composure under pressure. As the individual responsible for the efficient administrative operations of assigned program(s), the Program Associate: Organizes, attends, and reports on meetings and workshops of national and international steering committees, governing councils, and working groups associated with the IWGOO. Provides programmatic support functions such as preparing briefing materials, arranging telephone, VTC, web cam, and face-to-face conferencing, and maintaining project databases and websites. Assists in the preparation of program communications materials and responses to external requests for program information. Provides support for the programmatic and/or administrative requirements of the corporation, including maintaining the program websites and exhibit booths, preparing and distributing promotional and informational brochures, and other tasks as assigned. To qualify, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in one of the natural sciences, and at least two years’ experience in providing support to an academically focused, scientific program (or equivalent science training and management experience). Familiarity with ocean science is preferred. Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for the required work experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail are required. The successful applicant will have demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with the ability to exercise good judgment and to anticipate and mitigate problems with events or products. Initiative, creativity and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team are a must. Excellent listening, note taking and research skills required. Demonstrated proficiency with all MS Office applications is necessary; knowledge of graphics and web page layout and design is preferred.
