March 25, 2009 TITLE: Education Specialist UNIT: Adirondack Ecological Center (AEC), Newcomb, NY SALARY: $35,000 annual salary rate EXPECTED DURATION: 12 months; renewal depending on funding POSITION DESCRIPTION: Designs, develops and manages educational programs and materials related to outreach efforts at the AEC. Identifies and cultivates new outreach contacts. Activities and responsibilities will include: • Conception, design and development of educational programming and products • Maintenance of existing program contacts through timely communications and follow-up • Creation of additional program contacts through identification, contact and follow-up • Management of program calendar • Visitation to regional schools to deliver programs • Hosting programs at Huntington Wildlife Forest/AEC • Participation in regional meetings and conferences as AEC representative • Identification of and collaboration in pursuit of funding opportunities for educational programs REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Interpretation, or Education. Ability to work with a broad range of audiences, from grade school through professionals. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s Degree in any field of study (or related) identified in required qualifications • Two years experience in program development and delivery with a state, municipal or private nature educational center or similar institution. • Ability to speak effectively in front of large groups • Ability to use common desk-top publishing software • Familiarity with grant writing Date to Be Filled: June 1, 2009 Application Deadline: Although the college will accept applications until the position is filled, interested candidates should submit their materials by DATE to ensure optimal consideration.
