Second Call for Papers - Abstract Deadline May 1!!!
Oak Openings Region Conservancy/Green Ribbon Initiative invites
scientists, land stewards, educators, and the conservation community
to submit abstracts for contributed oral and poster presentations.
Abstracts that revisit issues from the last conference 12 years ago
are especially encouraged, but any aspects of Midwestern oak savanna
and woodland ecology and conservation are welcome!! Presentations are
scheduled for 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions.
Conference Structure:
July 29: Field trips! 1) Oak Openings Preserve – Metroparks of the
Toledo Area; 2) Kitty Todd Nature Preserve- The Nature Conservancy;
3) Secor Metropark/Irwin Prairie State Nature Prserve/Lou Campbell
State Nature Preserve/Wolfinger Road Prairie; 4) Maumee State Forest/
Blue Creek Conservation Area/BASF; 5) Birding the Sand Country: Tour
Oak Openings Preserve and Beyond – Metroparks of the Toledo Area; 6)
Oak Openings Greenway/Meilke Road Savanna Wildlife Area; 6) Wood
County Savannas and Dunes

Roger C. Anderson – Science Keynote, Distinguished University
Professor of Ecology, Illinois State University
Scott Weidensaul – Thursday Evening Keynote: Based on his book,
Return to Wild America Scott will address the subject of what we’ve
gained and lost in the past half-century of conservation, and what
lessons that holds for us in our future work and priorities.
Bill Stanley – Friday morning Conservation Keynote Speaker, The
Nature Conservancy, The Agnes S. Andreae Director of Conservation in
Ohio. Bill Stanley will discuss carbon emissions, climate change and
habitat loss

Rick Van Noy – Education Keynote Speaker, Associate Professor of
English, Radford University in Virginia, who will discuss his book A
