PhD Assistantship
Computer Science Programming Background Required with Interest in Terrestrial
Ecology and Management
Vermont Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit
Available beginning June 1, 2009
A graduate research assistantship for a Ph.D. student is available
starting JUNE 1, 2009 with the Vermont Cooperative Fish and Wildlife
Research Unit at the University of Vermont, Burlington, VT. The graduate
student’s research project will encompass the development of a
relational database in collaboration with the Vermont Department of Fish
and Wildlife. The database will consist of historical and contemporary
wildlife data and management actions. The successful applicant will be
expected to develop structured decision making and adaptive management
approaches for managing game and non-game species in Vermont in
fulfillment of their doctoral research requirements. The successful
applicant will work under the direction Dr. Therese Donovan and will
work closely with faculty from Computer Science at the University of
Vermont. For this unique position, applicants must have a strong
background in computer programming and database development (php, asp,
mysql) and a strong interest in terrestrial ecology and wildlife
management. Experience in web data extraction, wildlife habitat, or GIS
