I'd suggest checking the manuals at the r-project site ( http://cran.r-project.org/).
Otherwise, there are many good books on the subject - I've found Ben Bolker's book (Ecological Models and Data in R) to be quite approachable and useful, but it not may work for everyone. Check out a few in a library if you can, and try to find one that makes sense is my suggestion. Also, including "r-help" as a search term in google will help to find r-specific scripting solutions. Including 'r' as a search term doesn't get you very far.
