There should be many isopods and amphipods in tailwaters that dominate
macroinvertebrate assemblages.  I'm not sure of the size of dam you are
talking about.  Also, in addition to main tributaries you may have several
small, shaded tributaries above impoundments and a 30 m wide tailwater.  I
would recommend some type of encolsure sampler, pump, etc, however these
are much more costly than surbers.
