The University of Notre Dame announces the creation of multiple new research faculty fellowships to target research on integrated diagnostic and therapeutic platforms capable of supporting the personalized health care and environmental monitoring of the mid-21st century – the Advanced Diagnostics and Therapeutics (AD&T) Initiative. AD&T is comprised of high- level teams of researchers spanning the disciplines critical to these advanced technology platforms: experts in (a) synthetic chemistry, (b) advanced materials, (c) cell biology, (d) environmental biology, (e) genomics and proteomics, (f) nanofabrication and nanoelectronics, (g) fluid mechanics, (h) polymer and colloid physics, (i) chemical analysis and (j) micro- and nanofluidic instrumentation.
Research faculty are being recruited for the following project teams (1) Microcybernetics; (2) Genomics and Bioinformatics for Portable Environmental and Medical Diagnostics (3) Cartilage Lubricants and Tissue Engineering for Osteoarthritis. Detailed descriptions of all the specific project opportunities can be found at http://sri.nd.edu/advanced- diagnostics-and-therapeutics/career-opportunities/faculty-fellow- positions. Successful candidates will possess expertise in polymer solutions, colloidal physics, polyelectrolytes and biomacromolecules, fluorescence microscopy, spectroscopy, ecological genetics, and/or environmental genomics. Successful candidates for these new research fellowships will possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a natural sciences or engineering discipline, will have a demonstrated record of research accomplishment, and will seek to use the appointment as a springboard to high visibility career opportunities. Stipends are generous and commensurate with experience. Each project will have independent research support and opportunity for international travel/collaboration. Successful candidates can expect a three-year, annually-renewable appointment. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, short (< 3 page) description of your previous research experience, a short (< 3 page) statement explaining your interest in one or more specific projects and arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation sent to Heather McCleery at [email protected]. We anticipate filling positions beginning January 1, 2010 and continuing until all positions are filled.
