Dear Dr. Neufeld,
Having recently taken a course on experimental design in ecology and written
a term paper on the use of multivariate statistics, I cannot recommend
Gotelli and Ellison's "A Primer of Ecological Statistics" enough. Both of
them are the clearest statistics writers I have ever come across - they
explain everything in detail, without jargon, and in the context of
ecological experimentation. I also advise you to be careful when employing
multivariate statistics, for the assumptions in stepwise modeling are hard
to meet and may lead to erroneous conclusions- watch out for
multicollinearity and consider constructing artifical neural networks or
using Bayesian analysis instead.
Best,
Anastasia
