The park system has initiated an urban ecosystem restoration program and a long-term aquatic and terrestrial resource monitoring and assessment program. The goal of the ecosystem program is to implement the "ecosystem approach" at the urban catchment scale of 5-10 square miles, integrating restoration and management of terrestrial and aquatic resources within and outside park properties. The goal is to develop standardized approaches for whole catchment restoration that can be transferred to other watersheds in Ohio and the United States. The Senior Area Manager - Urban Watersheds will be stationed at a state-of-the-art watershed stewardship center, that will open in 2012 at the park's West Creek Reservation. This position will be heavily involved with an NSF Urban Long Term Research Area - Exploratory Project based in Cleveland Ohio working on sustainable use of vacant land and the ecological and sociological issues facing urban parkland. Cleveland Metroparks is looking for a person with strong applied ecology, hydrology, or environmental skill sets to design and oversee a biological and hydrological monitoring network, who is also able to effectively engage with park staff, local and regional governmental, nongovernmental and business organizations to advance a program to ensure the park's long-term ecological integrity, and to advance the science of urban ecology and ecosystem management. This position reports directly to the Chief of Natural Resources and will eventually have supervisory responsibilities for several land managers and applied scientists. John J.
