La MICA Biological Station (http://www.lamica.org) is a newly developed
research and education facility located in El Copé, Coclé province in central
Panama. The region is situated on the Continental Divide and includes lowlands
(200 m) – highlands (1450 m) in cloud forest. La MICA is primarily a
community-run station that has just begun to host students, researchers, and
general tourists.

La MICA hopes to develop long-term research programs. We are launching
education programs for the local schoolchildren and students from around the
world. We plan to begin global outreach to organizations and schools in the
near future.

In order to best facilitate our goals, we would like to form an advisory
committee. Members would offer suggestions and valuable information on a
variety of topics obtaining to research and educational programs in the
tropical forest at a remote field station.

We seek researchers and students to serve on our advisory committee. This is an
unpaid position. Knowledge of or expertise in Neotropical biology (all areas),
development of educational programs, long-term research, ecotourism, field
station management, fundraising, and interaction with local communities are all
areas we hope to represent. By having a variety of professions on the committee
we hope that time commitment will be reasonable (members may choose to not
address an issue due to lack of expertise or time). Communication will be
primarily via email or Skype. All advisory committee members are encouraged to
visit La MICA Biological Station but prior visitation is not necessary.

If you are interested in joining our advisory committee, please send an email
to Julie at [email protected] with general information about yourself including
your areas of expertise and why you would like to be a member of the committee.
Please attach your CV or resume.

Thank you!
Julie
