Dear Colleagues, This is a call for abstract submissions for the 2010 AGU Fall Meeting, Session B50: Linking Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) Quality with Biogeochemical Cycles.
Session Abstract: DOM is an important component of carbon cycling, and its composition has been preliminarily linked with ecosystem metabolism and biogeochemical cycling. Given the difficulty in measuring DOM characteristics, the majority of ecosystem studies have focused on bulk DOM. Development of simple and effective techniques to determine DOM composition has increased the number of studies characterizing DOM. This session focuses on how DOM characteristics, rather than concentration alone, may play a large role in controlling biogeochemical function in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. We welcome presentations that compare DOM quantity and quality, discuss advances and limitations of different quality measures, and ultimately link DOM with ecosystem-level processes. We hope that this session will encourage discussion and advance thinking about how DOM quality can be linked to ecosystem processes. We look forward to receiving your abstract submissions; please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about this special session. Sincerely, Erin Hotchkiss ([email protected]) Keli Goodman ([email protected]) William McDowell ([email protected]) Jason Fellman ([email protected]) Sponsor: Biogeosciences. CoSponsor: Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology; Hydrology. The abstract submission deadline is 2 September. -------------------------------------------------------------- Erin R.
