Annamarie, We make our own using PVC from the local hardware store. For a small quadrat, you can use 1"dia. pvc pipes and corner pieces (material cost <$20), and buy a hand cutter for about $12.
If you want to get fancy and subdivide the quadrat (say 10cm squares) drill holes in the sides every 10 cm and thread it with string. Simple and cheap.
