POSITION/TITLE: Herpetology Field Technician
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Aquatic Biologist,
this position will conduct routine stream amphibian surveys for tailed
frogs and torrent salamanders to assess long-term population trends and
species occurrence across the ownership. Use maps, aerial photographs,
and GPS to navigate and record spatial information. Record field data
and enter into computer databases.
Actively participate in the company safety program and assist in a
variety of other routine aquatic and herpetofauna surveys as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
* Bachelor's degree in biology, fisheries, wildlife or related
field.
* General knowledge of Pacific Northwest herpetofauna.
* Ability to correctly identify herpetofauna and familiarity with
survey techniques/protocols
* Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job
including good hearing and vision.
* Ability to orient and traverse rugged, densely vegetated terrain
in adverse climate conditions
* Ability to work alone, occasionally at night, in remote
locations without immediate supervision
* Demonstrated competency with personal computers and relevant
programs for word processing, data entry and analysis.
* Maintains punctual and regular attendance. Ability to work
overtime as necessary
* Excellent organizational skills
* Current valid driver's license

DESIRED:
* Primary consideration will be given to a highly motivated
individual with an interest in herpetology and aquatic ecology.
* Curriculum focus in aquatic ecology.
* Prior field experience working with herpetofauna.
* Experience using hand-held field data collectors and personal
computers.
* Ability to work with basic power tools.
* Experience driving 4-wheel drive pickups and all-terrain
vehicles.
EMPLOYER PAID PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL AND DRUG TEST IS REQUIRED.
