Beginning Salary: $35724 - $40932 depending upon qualification

Duties and Responsibilities
LENGTH OF POSITION: 
Length of the term is dependent on funding from USGS. Position is currently 
funded through September 30, 2012. Additional funding may extend the term. 

DUTIES: 
Serves as the Long Term Resource Monitoring Program (LTRMP) water quality 
component field crew leader and specialist. Provide leadership and 
coordination while overseeing the LTRMP water quality component. 
Coordinates and/or collects water quality and aquatic community data from 
the Mississippi River using protocols established by the LTRMP and U.S. 
Geological Survey (USGS). Leads field crews to collect water quality, fish, 
invertebrates, and other aquatic animals in a fixed and/or stratified-
random sampling design. Coordinates and supervises personnel and procures 
equipment for LTRMP and Department research projects. Enters or supervises 
the entry, verification, and transfer of data. Creates tables, graphs, and 
images for data analyses, reports, and peer-reviewed publications. Provides 
input for project development, design, and data analyses utilizing LTRMP 
and field station data. Leads or assists in the preparation of grant 
proposals to answer research and management questions that explain long-
term trends in Mississippi River data. Collaborates with Resource Science 
Division biometricians, field station staff, and/or USGS staff as 
necessary. Attends and presents information at intra- and interstate 
meetings, workshops, and conferences pertinent to large river ecology. 
Condenses and disseminates scientific information to the public and other 
governmental and non-governmental organizations. Stays current with large 
river ecological literature including new or improved methods for 
monitoring these systems. Supervises and trains two - five hourly employees 
in large river sampling techniques, boat safety, and maintenance, fish 
identification, and gear maintenance. Procures, verifies, and reports, 
information to field station partners (e.g. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USGS, Minnesota DNR, Iowa DNR, Illinois 
DNR, Illinois Natural History Survey, Wisconsin DNR, and various 
universities). Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree 
in Fisheries Management, Aquaculture or closely related subjects and at 
least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in 
fisheries research or management or closely related natural resource field; 
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
