Dear list,

I'm currently on the market for both a photosynthesis analyzer and a LAI meter. I have quoted both LI-COR and CID models as follows:

Photosynthesis: LI6400XT vs. CI-340

LAI: LAI-2200 vs. CI-110

Both will be used for measurements in the field, for both tree canopies and grasses (and yes, I have budgeted the grass leaf chamber for both systems as well). The specs appear to be very similar, but I'm new to the field.

So far, CID comes ahead on price for both systems, and the CI-340 appears to be noticeably more portable. With this in mind, is there any significant gain in going with the LI-COR hardware instead of CID? Why? Are there other systems out there? I'd really appreciate the insight from people with hands-on experience with these systems.

Thank you,
