BIRD POINT COUNT, NEST BOX & ARTHROPOD SAMPLING FIELD ASSISTANTS needed to conduct bird point counts and collect habitat data for biodiversity study across the northern Oregon Coast Range (up to 3 technicians). Duties include conducting early morning bird point counts, blue-bird nest box checks, arthropod sampling, vegetation/habitat sampling, data recording, safe driving on logging roads, and care for equipment. Applicants should be comfortable navigating in remote backcountry settings and be able to work as a team member under difficult field conditions. Most days will involve challenging cross-country hiking through recently harvested stands. Experience with point counts, and knowledge of regional bird ID is desired. Positions available May 2012 through August 2012. Assistants will receive approximately $2,100-$2,500 per month (commensurate with experience) in addition to housing (in Dallas or McMinnville, OR).
