Below is an announcement for a new post-doctoral research position
based at Cornell University. Please circulate widely. Thanks!

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: SOCIO-ECOLOGY OF AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPES

The Cornell University Department of Natural Resources, as host of the
Cornell Ecoagriculture Working Group, is hiring a Post-Doctoral
Research Associate to contribute to research on the socio-ecology of
agricultural landscapes in Africa and Latin America. This position is
offered initially as a one-year appointment, with the possibility of
extension for up to two additional years contingent on funding. The
position is based at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and is
available immediately.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will work
on several research projects in support of a three-year “Global
Review” of ecoagriculture—an approach to managing rural landscapes to
increase synergies among food production, rural livelihoods, and
ecosystem conservation. Specific projects will include
meta-assessments of integrated landscape initiatives that support
socio-ecological production landscapes in Latin America and Africa;
and analysis of governance systems and social institutions that are
being developed and adapted for socio-ecological production landscapes
in many regions of the world. The Research Associate may also
contribute to additional projects, including action research with
multi-stakeholder groups in East Africa to support multi-functional
agricultural landscapes. Depending on his or her interests, the
Research Associate may contribute to these projects through the
application of methodologies for evidence-based decision-making (e.g.,
scenario modeling, decision-support tools, participatory planning and
monitoring) in these landscapes. The Research Associate will work as
part of an interdisciplinary, international team of researchers at
Cornell, other universities, NGOs and international organizations, and
several of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural
Research (CGIAR) centers. Together with these partners, the Research
Associate will be expected to publish research results in high impact
factor peer-reviewed journals, and to contribute to the presentation
of key findings to scientist, policymaker, and practitioner audiences
at major international convenings.

REQUIRED AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: the successful candidate will
have a PhD in a relevant field, such as geography, regional planning,
natural resource management, environmental studies, rural sociology,
political ecology, government, or a related field. Research experience
and a record of peer-reviewed publications in interdisciplinary
research related to agriculture, sustainability, rural land use,
and/or governance systems is also required. The ideal candidate should
possess excellent analytical skills and superior English writing
abilities. Foreign language proficiency, especially in Spanish or
French, is desirable but not required. The position involves domestic
and international travel up to 20% time.

TO APPLY, please submit as a single PDF file: 1) a cover letter
describing your background, experience, and interest in this position;
2) your curriculum vita; 3) two work samples (including one scholarly
publication and one other work sample); and 4) the names and contact
information for three references. Please e-mail your application file
to Abby Hart, [email protected], in a message with subject line
