Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond invites applications for the position of Department Head in the Department of Biological Sciences. To be considered for the position, applicants must have a Ph.D. in any area of Biology and must have credentials that warrant appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.
Southeastern Louisiana University is primarily a teaching institution whose mission is successful education of undergraduate and graduate students and services to employers and communities in the region. Hammond is located 50 miles between the metropolitan centers of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Southeastern has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 15,000 and the Department of Biological Sciences has approximately 850 undergraduate majors in five concentrations: Ecology/Environmental/Evolutionary Biology; Microbiology/Molecular Biology; Integrative Biology, Plant Science, and Biology Education. The successful candidate will oversee all activities in the department, including but not limited to the promotion of undergraduate and graduate education, oversight of course scheduling, support of student and faculty development/recruitment, evaluation of faculty in accordance with university and departmental guidelines, administration of the departmental budget, and fostering a research environment in support of the teaching mission. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and will be encouraged to maintain a research program appropriate in a department with both an undergraduate and masters level degree program.
