Dear Ecolog,

My colleagues and I were recently fretting over how to secure funding to buy
more cameras
to record arthropod visitations to specific plants. We were chatting about it
and suddenly
realized that every smartphone now has a relatively high resolution camera. If
we wanted to
build an immense observation library of insects in general in different places,
everyone/anyone that saw a neat bug could stop, record it, and upload it to
youtube. I
suspect there are also apps to this effect. If you have any ideas how we could
best do this,
i.e. how to set up a youtube channel etc or build an app, please pop me an
email.

Here is a link to site a built just to get the ball rolling:
http://www.bugcam.org
cheers,
chris.
