Deer Populations and Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease in the Upper Midwest

Description: 
The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University
invites applications for a doctoral research assistantship to investigate the 
dynamics
of white-tailed deer in response to eruptions of epizootic hemorrhagic disease
(EHD).  Deer populations in Michigan
suffered heavy losses in 2012.  This
study will explore the response of the populations and the implications of 
spatial
arrangement of deer social groups to the management of deer after heavy
mortality to EHD. The work will be done in partnership with the Michigan
Department of Natural Resources.


Qualifications: Applicants must have an MS degree
in biology, wildlife, ecology, forestry or related field.  Academic 
requirements include strong GRE scores
and GPA.  


Financial Support: $20,000 stipend per year plus tuition
and health benefits


Start Date: Expected start date is August 1, 2013.
