Climate Change and Forest Carbon Dynamics

The Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at
Virginia Tech is seeking applicants for a USDA-funded PhD-level graduate
research assistantship with an expected start date of fall of 2013.
Research will focus on understanding the different biotic contributions
(i.e., heterotrophs vs. autotrophs) to soil respiration in response to
climate change and forest management. This research is part of a large,
multi-institution, multi-disciplinary research program broadly aimed at
managing forests to increase carbon sequestration; increase efficiency
of nitrogen and other fertilizer inputs; and adapt forest management
approaches to increase forest resilience and sustainability under

Research assistantships include a full tuition waiver, benefits, and a
competitive annual stipend including summer support (~$21,000 -
