Each month the Groundwater Wetlands Study Group features a photograph of a
different site. This month we feature Clay Springs, Utah, USA., home of
the longitudinal gland pyrg ( a springsnail), a species that has been
petitioned for protection under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, and
currently under threat under threat by water withdrawal for Las Vegas,
Nevada. The photographs are accompanied by a paragraph describing the site
and its significance. Next month we will feature Lake Weering on the
Victorian Volcanic Plain in Australia. Lake Weering is one of the
rare 'Pink Lakes' due to the presence of the halobiont alga, Dunaliella
salina. For additional information about the Study Group, contact Tom
Baugh at [email protected].
