Job Title: Lecturer, Institute for Environmental Sustainability,
Conservation and Restoration
Background: Loyola University Chicago (LUC), Institute for
Environmental Sustainability (IES), invites applications for a
full-time, 3-year, renewable non-tenure-track position at the rank of
Lecturer beginning fall 2014. The IES is a new interdisciplinary
academic unit housed in a LEED-certified geothermal building with
state-of-the-art laboratories, greenhouse and aquaponics facilities
for teaching and research, and a 406-bed "green" dormitory. The IES
presently offers Bachelor's Degrees in Environmental Science and
Environmental Studies, as well as 5-year, Bachelor's/Master's Degrees
with the Quinlan School of Business. Educational opportunities in the
IES are enhanced by LUC's Retreat and Ecology Campus (LUREC) field
station where students have fully developed and implemented a
sustainable farm, a wetland restoration project, and a biodiversity
recovery project. LUREC provides an excellent outdoor teaching
laboratory for both conservation and restoration projects. The
student farm and the IES biodiesel program are two examples of
student-run businesses that serve as educational platforms for both
entrepreneurial sustainable business practices and solutions to

Duties and Responsibilities: Candidates for the position will be
expected to teach introductory courses in environmental science and
contribute to course development and teaching in support of a
curricular concentration in Conservation and Restoration. Teaching
responsibilities shall include 4 sections each semester with the
option to teach at LUREC in the summer.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for the position must clearly
demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and have a
record of (or clear potential for) distinguished student mentorship.
Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level is desirable. The
successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in an area of the
environmental sciences germane to conservation/restoration ecology or
landscape ecology and should be willing to support the mission of LUC
and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education and to embrace the
pedagogical opportunities at LUREC.
