Assistant Professor in Soil and Plant Community Restoration

The Ohio State University is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Soil 
and Plant Community 
Restoration.  Candidate is expected to develop an externally-funded, nationally 
recognized 
research and teaching program in soil science and plant ecology focused in the 
areas of soil-plant 
relationships and plant community structure and function. Potential research 
areas include: 
quantitative ecological interactions between soils and plants underlying the 
restoration of native 
plant communities and wildlife habitat, sustainable soil quality enhancement of 
managed soil-
plant systems, and the effect of soil remediation on invasive plant 
establishment.  Candidate is 
expected to develop appropriate interdisciplinary alliances including team 
research with the School 
of Environment and Natural Resources; publishes in refereed scientific 
journals; teaches courses 
relevant to environmental science and other academic majors in School of 
Environment and Natural 
Resources including an upper level undergraduate course in soil management and 
plant 
community restoration; teaches graduate level course(s) on ecological processes 
and soil-plant 
relationships of plant populations and communities; contributes to 
team-teaching an upper level 
undergraduate/graduate course on restoration of degraded soils; contributes to 
advising and 
mentoring undergraduate students including honors students, as well as 
assisting with advising 
student organizations; advises and mentors graduate students in the Environment 
and Natural 
Resources Graduate Program with the opportunity to also contribute to graduate 
education in 
other related graduate degree programs at The Ohio State University; works 
collaboratively with 
other University faculty/personnel, government agencies, non-government 
organizations, and 
citizen groups to advance the land grant mission of the University.

Strong academic background and experience in both plant community ecology and 
soil science; 
applicants with field research experience related to design and restoration of 
natural and/or 
managed ecosystems are especially encouraged to apply; a record of 
peer-reviewed publications 
and demonstrated potential for developing extramural funding are essential; 
post-doctoral 
training and confirmed teaching experience are preferred; capable of 
interfacing with faculty 
having core interests in other disciplines including natural resource sciences; 
successful candidate 
will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability 
to work closely with 
other people.
