River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, invites applications for a tenure track
position in Environmental Science to begin in August of 2014. We are
particularly interested in candidates with a background in biogeochemistry
and experience in the application of field methods to riverine and estuarine
systems. The hiring effort is part of the expansion of the newly-created
Department of Environmental Science and Studies at Washington College and
will contribute to achieving the College’s goal of becoming a leader in the
interdisciplinary study of the environment, as articulated in its new
strategic plan.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in environmental science or related discipline
and must have the capacity to contribute to an interdisciplinary curriculum
in environmental education. Washington College has a tradition of excellent
undergraduate teaching. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential
for engaging students both within and outside the classroom, including
mentoring students in original research. Preference will be given to
applicants whose teaching and research are well suited for taking advantage
of Washington College’s unique natural setting in rural Maryland on a major
tributary of Chesapeake Bay. Faculty are also expected to periodically
contribute to the college’s first year seminar program.

Inquiries should be directed to Dr. Leslie Sherman, chair of Environmental
Science and Studies ([email protected]). Candidates should submit a
