*Los Amigos Biological Station, Madre de Dios, Peru*


Los Amigos Biological Station is looking for 5-8 volunteers to assist with
a comprehensive herpetological survey to begin approximately May 1 and
continue through early-to mid-June (approximately 1 1/2 months). Volunteers
must be able to commit at least one month of the project (exceptions can be
made under special circumstances only).



Position Description: Volunteer field assistants will perform the following
tasks:

   - Collection and identification of specimens found along approximately
   60 transects (30 low terrace, 30 high terrace) and in 60 plots (30 low
   terrace, 30 high terrace)
   - Recording data about each specimen's location and behavior at time of
   observation
   - Maintaining field equipment



Technicians will regularly work late hours during the night to accomplish
the aforementioned tasks. Applicants should expect long hours in the field
in challenging conditions, including rain, heat, and biting insects. Prior
experience handling and identifying reptiles and amphibians is strongly
preferred. Applicant must be willing to euthanize animals.



The study site is a remote biological station in the southern Peruvian
Amazon. Housing and meals are provided on site.



The cost of participating in this project is $35/night for commitments of 1
month or more, which includes housing in a double room with shared bath and
three meals a day, as well as unlimited snacks and hot drinks from our
snack table.
