Hi all,
I just wanted to say that if you haven't heard of the The Story
Collider<http://www.storycollider.org>(kind of like The Moth except
storytellers all incorporate science into
their stories).

I think it's a great venue for getting your humanized science stories out
to a broader audience. I'm kind of biased, though, because I've gotten to
be one of their storytellers, recalling my first dive in
Alvin<http://storycollider.org/podcast/2014-02-10>.

I've seen a lot of posts regarding living off foodstamps the issues with
supply and demand of PhDs. I know that when I tell my friends and families
about how frequently there are PhDs living off foodstamps they're always
surprised and think I'm exaggerating the truth.

I think that reaching out to a broader audience through storytelling can
help make the public more aware that getting a PhD is not necessarily a
reliable meal ticket in your field. I know not everyone wants to publicize
what they've been going through, but someone collecting stories on the
matter might have a great pitch to The Story Collider for a compelling tale.

Just my two cents!
All the best,
Skylar
