Dear Ecolog,
Could you please post the following research fellow opportunity:
Research Fellow in Applied Forest Ecology and Silviculture
Position description: A research fellow position is available for
assisting on applied forest ecology and silviculture projects
examining the dynamics, structure, and composition of managed and
natural forest systems in the upper Great Lakes and New
England. These projects include dendrochronological assessments of
stand dynamics and past climate responses, as well as evaluations of
the impacts of emerging management objectives (e.g., bioenergy
production and climate change adaptation) on forest ecosystem
structure and function. This position would work as part of a large
research team composed of scientists from the USDA Forest Service
Northern Research Station, University of Minnesota, and cooperators
from county, state, and federal agencies in the region.
Applicant requirements: Applicants should have a master's degree in
forestry, natural resources, ecology or a related discipline, and
should have previous field experience in forest
ecosystems. Experience with dendrochronology and forest vegetation
and soils measurements is required. In addition, applicants should
have demonstrated data management and statistical skills and must be
willing and able to work efficiently in field and office settings as
part of a research team.
Responsibilities: Work will involve extensive field work and data
analysis, including the collection and analysis of tree-ring,
vegetation, woody debris, microclimate, and tree physiological data.
This position will begin in spring 2014 and is currently available
for 1 year, with possible extension, depending on the availability of
funds. This position will involve occasional multi-night travel to
research sites in the upper Great Lakes region.
Application Instructions: Applications and required documents must be
submitted online at the University of Minnesota Employment website:
