Job Description: Drs. Aram Calhoun and Krista Capps are seeking two undergraduate research assistants to support ecosystem ecology research in vernal pools in Maine this summer. These positions are part of a National Science Foundation project, CNH: Small Natural Features with Large Ecosystem Functions in Urbanizing Landscapes (http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward? AWD_ID=1313627). Research assistants will gain experience: 1) working in the field in upland and wetland habitats, 2) collecting and analyzing, solid, liquid, and gas samples for measuring forms of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus, and 3) working with eggs, larvae, juveniles, and adult pool- breeding amphibians. Assistants will work in both field and laboratory settings (~50% field/50% lab). Requirements: Applicants must currently be enrolled in a university and have a valid drivers license. Preference will be given to applicants with field and lab research in ecology and/or chemistry and to those students with an academic background in ecology, chemistry or environmental science. Applicants will be working within a large team that consists of faculty, graduate students, other undergraduate researchers, and high school interns; therefore, candidates must be willing to work as part of a large group. Details: This is a full-time position. Start dates are flexible, but preference will be given to applicants that can begin in early to mid-May and can work through August. Salary will be determined by the applicants previous experience. Students will be supervised by Laura Podzikowski , a PhD student on the project.
