Greathouse Butterfly Farm is seeking applicants for our Entomology/Butterfly Production internship program. Interns will gain hands-on work experience while assisting our staff in the following areas: insect rearing, pest monitoring and management, butterfly collecting, cleaning and sterilization of insect rearing areas, and other daily responsibilities as assigned. Interns may also complete a research project. Possible project topics include organic Integrated Pest Management, developing organic artificial insect diets, or a wide range of other topics based upon intern interests and the needs of the farm.
Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week (20 hours or more per week preferred) for the summer semester, with some weekend availability preferred. Internships are unpaid, but may be completed on a volunteer basis and/or interns may arrange for academic credit through their college or university. *Qualifications:* - Applicable background, coursework, and/or major in Biology, Entomology, Agriculture, or a related area. - Strong verbal and written skills. - Ability to multitask. - Ability to stay on feet for prolonged periods of time. - Comfortable lifting, bending and/or stretching for prolonged periods of time. - Ability to handle prolonged periods of times in warm, humid environments (outdoors, greenhouses, and insect rearing labs). - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. - Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. - Strong work ethic. - Willingness to work a flexible schedule, with a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week (20 hours or more per week preferred). *How to Apply:* Please submit resume, cover letter, and list of 3 references to: Dehlia Albrecht Butterfly Production Manager Greathouse Butterfly Farm [email protected] *About Greathouse Butterfly Farm:* Greathouse Butterfly Farm, Inc. is located in North Central Florida just 15 miles east of Gainesville.
