Dear Ecologgers:

We would like to invite your contributions to our session at the AGU 2014
Meeting on the importance of hot spots and hot moments across scales. We
are hoping to get a diverse set of presentations spanning in-stream and
terrestrial foci as well as multiple elements.

The session description is:

There has been a large focus on spatiotemporal heterogeneity (i.e., “hot
spots” and “hot moments”) in landscape and aquatic ecosystems, where
disproportionate amounts of constituent (e.g., C, N, S, P, Hg)
transformations and transport can occur in small portions of a watershed
for brief periods of time. Advances in high frequency sensors and
high-resolution mapping, allow better assessment of how the spatial and
temporal structure of heterogeneity impacts water quality concentrations
and loads. A central challenge is discerning the extent and range of
geomorphic, hydrological, and biogeochemical conditions to answer the
question: how important are hot spots and hot moments for understanding
water quality at larger scales? This session welcomes submissions that
focus on field methods, analyses, and models that explicitly locate,
quantify, and/or predict how soil, ground, and surface water quality can be
controlled by aquatic or terrestrial biogeochemical and hydrological hot
spots and hot moments.

We are pleased to have the following confirmed invited presenters:
Antoine Aubeneau, Notre Dame
Laura Lautz, Syracuse University
Kevin McGuire, Virginia Tech
Jen Morse, Portland State University
