*Forester, permanent full-time position at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA*

A new permanent, full-time position in Forestry is available as part of an
ongoing research collaboration between the Sewall Lab at Temple University
and the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.  The
successful candidate is responsible for the performance of professional
forestry work at Fort Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center, a
17,100-acre area of working landscapes, native eastern deciduous forest,
and rare remnant Pennsylvania prairie that is located about 100 miles
northwest of Temple University's main campus in Philadelphia, and about 22
miles northeast of Harrisburg, PA.

The incumbent will be based at Fort Indiantown Gap and will plan, develop,
and implement programs designed to manage, protect, and conserve forest
resources at Fort Indiantown Gap. Additional responsibilities include but
are not limited to forest management, forest protection, timber management
and wood utilization, forest resource planning and wildlife fire
management. The Forester will use practical application of biological,
physical, quantitative, managerial, economic, social, and policy principles
to the regeneration, management, utilization, and conservation of the
forest to meet the goals and objectives of military training, while
maintaining the productivity of the forest. This will include prevention
and control of damage to the forest arising from the action of animals,
unauthorized fires, invasive and competing species, disease, and insect
infestation, and climatic agents. Additionally, the incumbent will assist
with prescribed fires; the use of deliberate burns to accomplish ecological
land and training range management goals and objectives to sustain and
improve military training opportunities and assist with suppression as
needed. The successful candidate will also perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
*Bachelor’s degree in Forestry accredited by the Society of American
Foresters with at least three years of directly related experience. An
equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to effectively
interact with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
*Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
*Ability to maintain records and inventories.
*Strong attention to detail.
*Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
*Familiarity with GPS methodology and ArcGIS Desktop software.

Preferred:
*Wildfire or prescribed fire experience.

This is a full-time permanent position with benefits.  Salary is
commensurate with education and experience.
