Very good advice (a big perspective) on why to apply or not to apply to graduate school in science [but also all graduate school in general] and it also gives you advice for once you're in on how to approach graduate school. It is organized into clearly titled chapters, so you don't need to read the entire book cover to cover to obtain the advice you want from it.
