Vacancy Announcement – Assistant Professor Wildlife Ecology and Management

Department of Fish and Wildlife Sciences, College of Natural Resources, 
University of Idaho


The Department of Fish and Wildlife Sciences in the College of Natural 
Resources (CNR) invites applications for an academic-year, tenure-track 
position as Assistant Professor in Wildlife Ecology and Management.


Responsibilities

The position will involve approximately 40% teaching, 40% scholarship and 20% 
advising/outreach/service. Teaching responsibilities will include a 
senior-level capstone course in Wildlife Management, a conclave class for the 
Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society, and a graduate-level course in the 
candidate’s specialty area. The successful candidate is expected to develop a 
strong, extramurally funded research program addressing basic ecological and 
management-relevant questions in wildlife ecology, to mentor graduate and 
undergraduate students, and to work across disciplines with other faculty both 
within and outside the College of Natural Resources.


Qualifications

Required: The applicant must possess a Ph.D. with a focus on wildlife ecology 
and management, and a research emphasis on understanding the impacts of 
anthropogenic and natural influences on wild terrestrial vertebrate 
populations/habitat. The applicant should have a good knowledge of management 
issues relating to wild terrestrial vertebrates and have strong quantitative 
skills. The candidate should demonstrate successful research productivity 
through external funding and refereed publications, and must demonstrate 
commitment to teaching excellence. *Applicants who are selected as final 
possible candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.


Desired: Desired research experiences might include: Experience in managing 
research projects, knowledge of funding opportunities, post-doctoral 
experience, agency experience, interest in understanding conservation and 
harvest management of wildlife populations, a background in predator-prey 
dynamics, predator ecology, disease ecology, and using modeling and statistical 
methods to applied situations. Desired teaching and service experiences might 
include: experience as the primary instructor or teaching assistant for a 
university-level course, demonstrated ability to successfully work 
collaboratively, experience transferring knowledge, and willingness to engage 
in service to students, the department and the university.
