The Great Basin Institute, a Reno-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is
recruiting a NetZero Project Lead/Data Analyst to gather, depict and
interpret data resulting from energy and water audits of buildings
associated with the U.S. Forest Service Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
The NetZero approach assists Forest Service Green Teams in meeting goals of
the Western Collective Sustainable Operations program. NetZero assesses use
of natural resources relative to natural resource replenishment: When the
two are in balance, the ecological footprint is neither positive nor
negative, indicating a net zero system.

In coordination with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Hydrologist and a
GBI NetZero Project Technician, the NetZero Project Lead/Data Analyst will
coordinate with USFS Engineering and other staff to identify baseline and
other sources of data. The Lead will additionally compile, analyze and
present data, and prepare associated reports. The NetZero project will
produce recommendations for environmental conservation measures to reduce
water and energy footprints, thereby reducing its climate-change footprint.

Compensation and Timeline
• Wage: $16.00/hour
• Timeline: 12-week appointment, beginning upon availability
• Full-time, up to 40 hours per week

Location
The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest comprises over 6 million acres, making
it the largest National Forest in the lower 48 states, and is located
throughout the state of Nevada and a small portion of eastern California.
The duty station for this position is the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest
Supervisor’s Office located in Sparks, NV.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Environmental
Engineering or allied discipline, with additional professional experience
in the sustainability field;
• Experience in following detailed protocols for data collection;
• Experience in water- and/or energy-use audits preferred;
• Familiarity with standard building infrastructure and associated water
and energy systems preferred;
• Experience in use of the MicroSoft Office suite of software, including
Excel, Access, and Word, as well as graphics software;
• Experience in database generation, and data management, analysis and
reporting;
• Experience in use of ArcGIS software and technologies for mapping and
other applications;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience
in public speaking and technical writing;
• Excellent organizational skills;
• Ability to work productively both independently and as part of a team; and
• Possess a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license.
