Dear Colleague, We are researching stream/river classification systems used in state policies and regulations. If you work with streams/rivers as a researcher, manager, conservationist or other capacity, we would greatly appreciate your time in helping us gather information for this project. In our state (NH), the Shoreland and Water Quality Protection Act uses stream order to classify streams and rivers and determine which reaches are regulated. Our goal is to compile a comprehensive list of similar regulations and the associated stream classification system as well as your opinion regarding the effectiveness of different approaches. We will publish our findings as a Carsey School of Public Policy Brief (https://carsey.unh.edu/publications)and peer reviewed publication.
