Dear ecologists,

We wish to introduce our initiative of a new international organization, This-Is-My-Earth (TiME), aimed to expedite conservation of critical habitats.

Our vision is to create an internet framework for engaging the public around the world to purchase critical habitats through a participatory network of individuals and community groups. There are surely other efforts out there that are doing important work in terms of land acquisition and set-asides, however our new organization offers several innovative concepts, all aimed to engage many more citizens of the world in conservation:

•    a low (only 1 dollar) membership fee;
a right to vote on where the money will be invested, enabling each member to be part of a democratic conservation movement; an assurance that 100% of membership money will actually be allocated for land purchasing (as opposed to personnel salaries or other expenses); an array of professional volunteers that will assist in directing the funds to where land conservation are most pressing. After TIME becomes established, we will offer members the opportunity to fund the membership of citizens from low-income countries. Later, supporters will have the opportunity to provide isolated communities with the needed technological infrastructure, to assist them in joining this global venture

All purchased lands will belong to local communities (no “green colonialism”)

A pilot web-site has been designed and is available at: <http://this-is-my-earth.org/>http://this-is-my-earth.org/ which offers a “proof of concept”.

We have launched a campaign to raise the necessary basic funds (building a full scale web site and paying the salary of a web manger to operate and develop the site and the organization for the first year of operation): <http://igg.me/at/ThisIsMyEarth1>http://igg.me/at/ThisIsMyEarth1 We hope you consider joining us and help us make it happen, by joining, contributing, and sharing.

Uri.
