Research Internship in Entomology and Biodiversity, Archbold Biological 
Station, Florida

Research Internship available at Archbold Biological Station in south-central 
Florida, primarily working with several types of collections, with an emphasis 
on insect specimens. The intern will work for 20 hours per week as a research 
assistant in the collections, primarily with an NSF funded collections data 
management project. With remaining time the intern will conduct an independent 
project in the area of biodiversity, using collection data analysis with an 
option of including field study.  Applicants should have hands-on experience of 
working with collections, preferably insect collections.  Archbold Biological 
Station has a known fauna of more than 5,000 insect species and more than 250, 
000 pinned specimens. This is a good opportunity to get experience in the 
challenges and conservation implications of insect diversity on a single site.

Interns live on site and receive room, breakfasts and lunches, a meal 
allowance, and a weekly stipend of $100. They work 20 hours per week as 
research assistants and the remainder on an independent research project. This 
internship will run for 8-12 months. The internships offer an opportunity for 
experience in every aspect of scientific research, from project choice and

Archbold Biological Station is active in research, conservation, and education. 
Our facilities include a 5000-ha preserve, and outstanding regional library and 
data management program, and one of the largest collections for any field 
station in North America. . We have a staff of about 50, with many visiting 
scientists, an active seminar program, and a relaxed biological station 
atmosphere.
