Position Announcement: Postdoctoral Position in the Banni grasslands.The
Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) seeks a
Postdoctoral Fellow to work on the ecological and socioeconomic impacts
ofProsopis juliflora and feasibility of grassland restoration in the Banni
grasslands
of Kutch. The position is part of a PEER-funded collaboration between
ATREE,the US Institute for Pacific Islands Forestry, Sajheevan, and the
University of
Hawaii, titled, “The Banni grasslands in a time of change – Ecological and
socioeconomic resilience in a coupled human-natural system.” The selected
candidate would work with Drs. Ankila Hiremath and Abi Tamim Vanak andtheir
collaborators, Drs. Susan Cordell, Pankaj Joshi, and Rebecca Ostertag. The
Fellow would be expected to work on the design and establishment of
experiments, the supervision of data collection and management,
coordination of
the work of graduate students and project staff, analysis and writing. The
position is based in Kutch at the RAMBLE field station in Banni (
www.bannigrassland.org), with some time to be spent in Bangalore. The
initial appointment is for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal
contingent on performance. A starting date in early 2016 is desirable. The
selected candidate is expected to have a PhD in plant ecology, preferably
with experience working on plant-water relations or ecosystem-level
questions relating to productivity and nutrient cycling. Applicants should
have strong field,  analytical and writing skills, and a demonstrated
ability to work independently. A working knowledge of Hindi is highly
desirable. A demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary conservation issues
would be an added advantage. The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
