If you just need to collect point data, Advenza PDF map will works well. It 
available for iOS and Android. I've used in the field to collect data on new 
invasive species populations. It will store the data in a CVS format for easier 
exporting to ArcMap, GRASSGIS, or QGIS. I'd also recommend a phone with a 
receiver capable of tracking and processing both GPS(NAVSTAR) and GLONASS GPS 
signals.
