Hi Adam,
Probably one of the best sources for this is the Global Land Cover Facility:
http://glcf.umd.edu/data/
From there you can also get to the LandSat data repository for
satellite imagery.
Another global data source that might be useful is this:
http://earthenginepartners.appspot.com/science-2013-global-forest/download_v1.2.html
I have recently used this in my work and was impressed how spot-on the
maps where.
Maybe not strictly landcover anymore, but probably also very useful is
HydroSHEDS: http://hydrosheds.cr.usgs.gov/index.php
Another thing is the global carbon map (not sure if the download is on
this site): http://www.carbon-biodiversity.net/GlobalScale/Map
Road data might also be useful: http://download.geofabrik.de/
There are also biodiversity datasets and others out there, but I am not
sure if you need those as well.
Hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.
Cheers,
Richard

Hello all,
I’m looking for pre-existing landcover data of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya,
specifically of Nakuru County. I’ve had a little trouble finding what I need,
since (from what I understand) Africa isn’t as well mapped as western
countries. If you guys have any pointers on where you think I should look, I
would really appreciate any tips you might have.
I’m looking for mapping done in 1999, 2010, and/or 2014 in particular, although
really any year would be helpful. In addition, if anyone knows where to get
satellite images of the same area taken in the late 1990s (1997-1999), I would
really appreciate that as well. Those would be incredibly helpful in case I run
into a wall looking for preexisting landcover data.
Thank you all so much. Have a wonderful day!
