Hi Bracha.
You might halving the number of traps using drift fences (barrier or
interceptors), forming a cross whose center is the trap.
This model eliminates therefore the trap in the plot of 0.25, and begins
with a trap with interceptors in 1 square meter plot.
In the literature there are some studies using this method.
I do not know if my contribution will serve you.
I have used an experimental scheme in which the plot of 1 square meter has a
pitfall in the center and four interceptors crosswise to the vertices of
the square. As the area increases, some interceptors inland areas are
eliminated, saving material and installation time.
If you want more details, you can email me.
Best
Jorge
