*MS Assistantship in Applied Forest Ecology and Silviculture at the
University of Vermont*
*Project:* The University of Vermont, Rubenstein School of Environment
and Natural Resources is seeking a master’s-level graduate student to
participate in a research project focused on developing and evaluating
adaptive forest management strategies for the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller
National Historical Park in Woodstock, VT. Forests in this park cover
over 550 acres and include some of the oldest working forests in the
United States presenting a unique context for evaluating long-term
forest stewardship in the face of projected climate change and invasive
specie impacts in the region. The student will join a team of
collaborators from the University of Vermont, National Park Service, and
U.S. Forest Service Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science in
developing and evaluating adaptive management plans that integrate park
forest vulnerability assessments and long-term projections of future
forest dynamics. The position is available for Fall 2016 and includes
two guaranteed years of funding (stipend, tuition waiver, and health
insurance).
*Qualifications:* B.S. in forestry, biology, natural resources,
environmental sciences or a closely related field. Applicants should be
able to work independently, but also cooperatively with other
researchers in the lab and on the larger project. Applicants should also
have a strong work ethic, demonstrated writing and quantitative
capabilities, plant identification skills, and a record of leadership.
