A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Department of
Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior and the BioTechnology Institute at the
University of Minnesota.

Valery Forbes and Mike Sadowsky are looking for a highly motivated postdoc
to work on a project related to bioremediation of contaminated estuarine
sediment by the deposit-feeding polychaete, Capitella teleta, and its
microbiome. While C. teleta is widely recognized as a pollution indicator
and is known to be effective at metabolizing a variety of organic
contaminants, the role that its microbiome plays in contaminant metabolism
and detoxification is unknown. The postdoctoral project will examine the
relationship between this worm and its microbiome and quantify the
importance of the microbiome for contaminant metabolism and sediment
bioremediation.

The position is for 2 years, and is annually renewable depending on
performance and availability of funding. The successful candidate will
receive training in professional and personal development, research
collaboration, presentation and publication of results, outreach, and
mentoring. The position includes a competitive salary and health insurance.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the
position is filled. A near-term start date is desired.

The Post-Doctoral Associate will be responsible for independently conducting
a series of experiments necessary to complete the aims of a University of
Minnesota Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Department, and the Biotechnology
Institute postdoctoral position related to the biodegradation of organic
compounds by the sediment-borne, polychaete worm, Capitella teleta.
Successful execution of these experiments is necessary to accumulate data
for publications to secure additional funding through future grants.

Qualifications

All applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Ecology, Microbiology, or
a relevant field. Expertise in microbiology, microbial ecology,
biodegradation, and analytical chemistry, is highly desired.
