*Outreach Intern*
The Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center is seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist with outreach projects related to nonnative herpetofauna in southern Florida including Argentine Black & White Tegus and Nile Monitors. Position may be part-time or full-time and lasts for three months but may be extended depending on performance and funding. Intern will be expected to work some weekend days. Additional descriptions of ongoing research can be found: http://crocdoc.ifas.ufl.edu/ *Duties * Outreach Intern will work with scientists and managers from the University of Florida as well as state and federal agencies. Primary duties include developing and delivering outreach materials such as posters and door hangers to raise awareness and reporting of nonnative reptiles in South Florida. Ideal candidate will be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish. Outreach Intern will have opportunities to participate in field work related to most other projects (see web site above for project descriptions). *Qualifications* · Degree (or seeking a degree) in ecology, biology, wildlife, environmental science, or related field · Excellent communication skills and outgoing friendly personality when interacting with public · Fluency in English and Spanish · Ability to work independently and with others safely in a fast-paced environment · Possession or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license · Experience navigating and mapping with aid of GPS · Working knowledge of South Florida ecosystems and wildlife · Experience operating vehicles with 4WD · First aid/CPR training is helpful but not required *Salary:* Target range is $12-14/hour, but will be commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. *Start date: *As soon as a suitable candidate is identified and available *To Apply:* Please send letter of interest and resume or CV by email to Mike Rochford at [email protected] and use subject heading “Outreach Intern” -- Michiko Squires Wildlife Biologist University of Florida - FLREC 3205 College Ave Davie, Florida 33314 (954) 577-6304 http://crocdoc.ifas.ufl.edu
