Position Description: As part of a project examining mouse lemur parasite ecology and dynamics in the beautiful rainforests of Madagascar, you will be working with one of the smallest primates in the world, the Goodman's mouse lemur. We will work primarily at night in the forests surrounding the region of Andasibe. This field project involves moderate-strenuous hiking, and nocturnal field work. If you have your own project ideas, we can discuss. Data collected during this period may result in publications or presentations for volunteer. The work is very rewarding, and the field assistant will play a leadership role in launching this longitudinal research project on a unique lemur species. Qualifications / Experience: No training or experience necessary. Volunteer should enjoy hiking, living outdoors, and the unpredictability of field work. Must speak English. Ability to speak French is also beneficial, but not required. Must be willing to learn Malagasy and work at night. Must also be willing to work in a collaborative environment. Applicants should have previous experience working with animals and at least two years of undergraduate course work in a biology-related field. Salary / funding: None available at this time. Support provided for internship / volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging): Volunteers must be able to pay for their travel to Madagascar, research permit, and food and lodging. I will pay for transportation to and from Antananarivo to the field site, and can provide some field equipment and meals. We are currently actively seeking additional funding for field assistants and may be able to cover additional costs in the later months.
