Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to submit an abstract for our session at the Fall AGU Meeting to be held December 12-16, 2016. The title of the session is: Empirical data and model-data integration for simulating, scaling and benchmarking key indicators of high latitude terrestrial ecosystems under climate change. A brief description of the session is provided below.

The deadline for abstract submissions is *Wednesday, 3 August 23:59 EDT* at fallmeeting.agu.org <http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2016/>

*Session Title:* B039. Empirical data and model-data integration for simulating, scaling and benchmarking key indicators of high latitude terrestrial ecosystems under climate change

*Session Description:*
Dynamic environmental processes in the high latitudes contribute among the largest uncertainties to global climate projections. Terrestrial biosphere models (TBMs) vary widely in their representation of vegetation and active layer dynamics, soil carbon stocks, ecosystem- atmosphere carbon fluxes, disturbance impacts, freeze/thaw sensitivities and hydrologic controls in Arctic, Boreal, and northern Temperate biomes. Rising temperatures and changes in the winter snowpack have a suite of direct and indirect impacts on biogeochemical cycling in these systems. This session will synthesize empirical work examining climate change effects and natural variation in biogeochemical cycling within high latitude ecosystems (northern temperate forest, boreal forest, tundra, peatland and permafrost-affected environments) and potentially merge these data with TBMs. We seek contributions that demonstrate the use of empirical measurements in ecosystem experiments and observational studies, as well as in situ and remote sensing measurements to calibrate, initialize, drive, and benchmark TBM simulations in high latitude ecosystem studies.
