Colleagues,
The Departments of Botany and Zoology at the University of British Columbia, in
Vancouver, Canada, invite applications for two faculty positions in Ecology. We
seek
outstanding individuals with innovative research programs focused on ecology
that would
extend and complement existing faculty strengths. Both positions are tenure
track and are
expected to be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, although a higher
rank might
be considered for an applicant of exceptional qualifications. Applicants must
have a Ph.D.
degree and an exceptional research record, with demonstrated potential for
establishing a
successful research program and attaining excellence in teaching at graduate
and
undergraduate levels. We welcome candidates working in any area of ecology, and
on any
organisms or ecosystems, but we note the proximity of UBC to marine,
freshwater,
temperate rainforest, grassland, alpine and boreal habitats and the
availability of on-
campus facilities that include greenhouses, aquatic facilities and the UBC
Botanical
Garden. We particularly encourage candidates who will align with and broaden
our
teaching and research approaches. The appointment will begin no earlier than
July 1, 2017.

The successful applicants, in addition to membership in their home
Department(s), will
become members of the Biodiversity Research Centre, an outstanding group of
scientists
studying ecology, evolution, and systematics. The Centre
http://www.biodiversity.ubc.ca/
provides exceptional opportunities to join an interactive research community,
develop
strengths in research and graduate teaching, study and contribute to the Beaty
Biodiversity Museum's collections http://beatymuseum.ubc.ca/, and participate
in the
Museum’s outreach efforts. Information on the Department of Zoology is
available at
http://www.zoology.ubc.ca while information on the Department of Botany is
available at
https://www.botany.ubc.ca/.

Responsibilities of the position include establishing and conducting an
internationally
competitive and externally funded research program, excellent teaching at the
undergraduate and graduate levels, effective supervision of graduate and
undergraduate
students, and participating on service committees for the Department,
University, and
academic/scientific community.

Applicants should send, as a single pdf, a cover letter, curriculum vitae,
statement of
research (maximum of 3 pages), statement of teaching accomplishments and/or
interests
(maximum of 2 pages), up to four publications, and the names and contact
information for
three referees to Drs. Amy Angert and Diane Srivastava at
[email protected].
The deadline for applications is October 21, 2016.

UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. All
qualified
persons are encouraged to apply. In accordance with Canadian immigration
requirements,
Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority. We
especially
welcome applications from members of visible minority groups, women, Aboriginal
persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and
gender
identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage productively
with diverse
communities.
