*General Summary:  *

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a
Lab Coordinator located on the Dahlonega campus. The Lab Coordinator will
be responsible for the operational activities of the Ecological Protection
Lab, formerly the Predatory Beetle Lab, which is a program of UNG’s
Environmental Leadership Center. The primary focus of the Ecological
Protection Lab is the rearing, release and tracking of populations of
predatory beetles and other biological controls to combat the hemlock
woolly adelgid, an invasive species which threatens the Eastern Hemlock
throughout its native range.



The position presents opportunities for research in the biological control
of invasive species. Additionally, the Lab will explore and develop
strategies for combating other ecological threats in the North Georgia
region, in cooperation with federal and state agencies and other
universities.



The Ecological Protection Lab is a program of the Environmental Leadership
Center (ELC). The ELC supports service, research and teaching activities
that promote leadership and stewardship in preserving and enhancing the
environment. In addition to the Ecological Protection Lab the ELC has
programs in Environmental Assessment, Ecological Restoration and
Sustainability Models.

*The Lab Coordinator will:*

Be responsible for oversight of the laboratory facility, staff and lab and
field operations. Prepare and perform lab and field operations.





Work with the Environmental Leadership Center Director to develop and
maintain the lab’s research focus, budget, and strategic direction.



Coordinate the work of and provide support services to researchers,
technicians, students, and volunteers involved in production and research
operations of the lab.



Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards for lab
operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of
the laboratory and compliance with federal, state, and university
regulations and standards.



Coordinate the ordering, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies,
laboratory supplies, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab.



Represent the University and the Environmental Leadership Center at
community events, workshops and conferences.



Perform other related duties as assigned.



*Knowledge, skills and abilities:*

   1. Working knowledge of biology and laboratory rearing equipment and
   procedures


   - Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
   in a lab setting
   - Strong organizational skills
   - Ability to present data to the public and outside agencies and to
   effectively coordinate with a variety of governmental agencies
   - Ability to work carefully and maintain orderly work environment.
   - Ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain
   - Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
   - Experience with Geographic Information Systems (encouraged but not
   required)
   - Valid driver’s license



*Certifications/Licenses and Minimum requirements:*

   - Bachelor’s degree in Biology or closely related field required
   - Master’s degree in similar fields encouraged but not required.
   - Requires three years of related experience, or an equivalent
   combination of education and experience
