May 31 – June 3, 2017

The fourth Symposium on Urbanization and Stream Ecology (SUSE4) will be
held in Browns Summit, NC from May 31 – June 3, 2017, just prior to the
2017 Society for Freshwater Science (SFS) annual meeting in Raleigh, NC.
The central theme of the symposium is identifying and overcoming common
barriers to catchment scale urban stream management and rehabilitation.
We will focus on creating a framework to support productive
conversations among academics and professionals from the fields of
stream ecology, engineering, management, planning, and the social
sciences. The format of the symposium will emphasize interactive
discussions among participants from these fields, but will also include
poster and oral presentations. The ultimate goal of the symposium is to
encourage an ongoing transdisciplinary and co-evolutionary approach to
urban stream management and rehabilitation. Outcomes may include
developing and implementing novel management approaches, developing new
collaborations, identifying research priorities and funding
opportunities, and additional actions that address priorities identified
at the symposium.

SUSE4 will take place at the Summit Conference Center in Haw River State
Park, located about 30 minutes north of Greensboro, NC and 1.5 hours
west of Raleigh, NC. The Summit Center at Haw River State Park is
located in the beautiful Piedmont region of North Carolina and includes
lodging (motel-style rooms and bunk cabins), meeting spaces, dining, and
recreational facilities (a pool, walking trails, canoeing). Bus/van
transportation to/from the conference center will be available from the
Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC and the Raleigh-
Durham International Airport. Food, transportation, and lodging options
are available as part of the registration.

Please note that the SUSE4 meeting is not part of the SFS annual
meeting, and attendees may present at both SFS and SUSE4. Please visit
